Dear 5th Grade Parents:

Our 5^th grade students are preparing to do a special project on an African American historical figure for Black History Month.  This special project will be due on Friday February 23^rd.

The Project will consist of

-         Short written or typed report

-         3 dimensional visual aid

-         Oral Presentation

Each project should answer five basic questions.

1.      What is the name of your historical figure? 

2.      What do you know about his/her family and childhood?  When and where was he/she born?  Did the events in his/her childhood lead to later accomplishments?

3.      What do you know about his/her education?

4.      What are some reasons why we remember this person during Black History Month?

5.      Is this person still alive?  If so, what is he/she doing?

NOTE – a 3 dimensional visual aid can be …

-         a puppet

-         shoe box visual

-         mobile

-         TV to show his/her accomplishments

-         Item(s) an inventor made

-         Cube

-         Flip-flap

-         Diorama

-         Display of books by an author

Posters that are 2 dimensional are not acceptable.  No projects will be accepted after the due date.  Remember to rephrase the information that you use.   

Parent participation is encouraged.
